Helping Hands for Freedom was founded by Staff Sergeant Patrick Shannon after he was wounded and recovering from his second Purple Heart at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Although he lost an eye and the back of his skull, his biggest concern was his family and knowing they would be looked after financially. "He made a difference and founded this organization in 2006," says CEO of Helping Hands for Freedom, Darin Fishburn.
"A lot of times these soldiers will go to apply for their disability rating and it could take three years," Fishburn explains. "If it takes three years, what do they do in the meantime? They're not on payroll anymore and they're not getting disability benefits, either. The organization helps with an emergency assistance fund to help with a variety of expenses from housing to vehicle expenses, utilities and more. In addition to emergency grants, Helping Hands for Freedom offers a life needs program, sports and education camps, and legacy and life enrichment programs. Some of these life needs and enrichment programs for children include paying for tutoring, assisting with back-to-school needs, school camps, and day care for children of families suffering from PTSD. The Phoenix Metro Chamber is proud to hold a fundraiser that will benefit the important mission of this organization.
n2publishing will be holding a block party event from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 to benefit Helping Hands for Freedom. "It will be held on High Street in North Phoenix," says Fishburn. "n2publishing and their amazing team are throwing a fundraiser at High Street and they want money to go to Helping Hands for Freedom. Anyone who comes out for the evening of music and buys a ticket and food and drinks; we get a percentage of that. It's going to be a great event." Exciting local band Rock Lobster is going to be performing at the event.
There will also be many exciting raffle prizes and celebrity giveaways for those that attend this family friendly fundraising night. Admission is only a $2.00 donation to this amazing charitable organization. It's pretty exciting," Fishburn adds.

"We work smarter and we keep our overhead down. We want to give as much as possible to our military families," finishes Fishburn. To learn more about Helping Hands for Freedom, visit www.helpinghandsforfreedom.org.
