A little nip? A little tuck? Full-blown facelift? Many women have pondered the same question as their skin starts to show signs of aging. Now, Ultherapy can help you answer some of those questions with a treatment that gives a natural and long-lasting option that is more attractive than invasive procedures that almost always include much down time, bruising and scarring.

I, too, have been curious how some celebrities stay red carpet beautiful well into their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond. I recently went to Luxury Skin Scottsdale to discover what Ultherapy has to offer and learn about a treatment that is widely used by some of today’s hottest celebrity talents. When I learned who some of these lovely and talented women are, I was ready to try Ultherapy, too!

How Does It Work?

Ultherapy is the only non-invasive procedure that is FDA-cleared to lift the skin on the eyebrow, chin, neck and chest. The procedure is non-invasive, increases collagen production, has no downtime, provides natural results and can be completed in one office visit.

Ultherapy uses varying depths of ultrasound to send skin into a “wound recovery mode,” wherein collagen production is increased, ultimately tightening and lifting the skin and giving it a more youthful appearance. This type of ultrasound is delivered deep into the skin utilizing various ultrasound cartridges.

How Does It Feel?

I chose to have my eye and brow area treated with Ultherapy. Before the procedure, I received a topical application of cream that subtly numbs the skin. After that takes effect, I was brought into the quiet treatment room and my skin, tissue and bone were mapped using a computer. That was fascinating! Esthetician and Owner of Luxury Skin Scottsdale, Kayla Hernandez then physically drew on my face with a special pencil to further make a “grid” on my face so as to specially map the treatment areas. Each patient is completely unique, so these face “grids” will look slightly different depending on what that initial face scan from the computer reveals.

Then, it was time to get down to it. The first “pass” with the ultrasound cartridge was the one that reached into the deepest layers of my skin. In fact, Ultherapy travels as deep into the skin as a face lift! The ultrasound is delivered in quick “pulses” that last a few seconds. Frankly, for me, it felt like little warm stings that quickly dissipated after the series of pulses were applied. The first “pass” of ultrasound felt a bit more intense than the second pass. The second pass utilized a different cartridge and treated a less-deep layer. The areas where I felt the stinging sensation most were those areas where the bone was closest under the skin. But remarkable, the ultrasound applied to my under-eye area; I didn’t feel a thing and it was entirely comfortable.

Since I was doing my eye and brow area, my treatment only took about 30 minutes. For my friend, Tracy McCormick, owner and publicist of Lightfinder PR, it took about twice as long since, she had her chin and neck area treated and there was quite a bit more skin area to cover.

Every person will experience Ultheraphy in a slightly different way. Some people will experience more of a stinging sensation than others. After treatment, the area might be slightly tender, although mine was not. I did not have any bruising or discoloration and I was able to resume regular activity immediately. The next day, I also did not experience any tenderness or other temporary side effects.  More than one million Ultherapy treatments have been performed worldwide with a 95 percent satisfaction rate one year after the treatment.

The full results of Ultherapy come in gradually as the deepest layers of the skin are undergoing a healing and rejuvenation process. Full results come in at about the 60-day mark for most people. Best of all? The results of Ultherapy last two to three years! “The sooner someone gets Ultherapy, the better the results,” says Hernandez, who herself has had Ultheraphy, so she can accurately speak about the treatment from an area of expertise on both sides of the ultrasound wand. After four days, I did start noticing a difference in the appearance of my under eye area, and I’ll be very anxious to see what the 60-day mark will reveal.
